Daniele Di Martino

Di Martino has a rather interesting introduction into the music scene: he started playing the violoncello at the age of 4, and had “great success” with it. His genre of interest switched to Hip-Hop around 15 for a short period of time – until he settled on electronic music.  And we are glad he did !

Daniele dropped this in our inbox last month. We immediately fell in love with it. He labeled his track as a remix, but after listening to the original I must admit that it exceeds that rank. Kat Frankie’s version is very much vocal oriented – a totally different genre. Di Martino made superb use of sampling and altering the vocals to suit the rest of his song. We are greeted by a dark yet extremely catchy and emotional keyboard / percussion intro – just the way we like it. The chords almost never abandon the song – the rest of the flavor  is incorporated with the introduction of a funky electronic bass-line  some creative variety of percussive sounds with a chunk of reverb and of course the vocals. Overall, it all blends into a magnificent song. Well done Daniele, you will definitely be on close watch from now on, good luck !

Bonus:

Marvin Gaye

Joyful harmony of a magical bass and blissful vocals make this rework a truly amazing one.

Wild Belle

Wild Belle is an indie rock band composed of siblings Elliot and Natalie Bergman. Contrary to all the european artist we have been blogging about these hip siblings are from Chicago, Illinois, United States. Their debut album Isles will be released tomorrow by nonetheless Columbia Records ! They have already released three songs from the album: “Keep You”, “Backslider” and “It’s Too Late”. It didn’t take long for this group to be discovered and instantly remixed by fellow musicians.

Crystal Fighters!

The wait is nearly over!! British/Spanish folktronica band Crystal Fighters is coming out with their all new album in 2013. Crystal Fighters formed in London, UK in 2007. The group consists of Sebastian Pringle (lead vocals, guitar), Gilbert Vierich(electronics, guitars, txalaparta, percussion) and Graham Dickson (guitar, txalaparta) with Laure Stockley, Mimi Borrelli and Eleanor Fletcher (vocals). They are “fast, mesmeric and passionate” as they describe. If you ask me they are everything we LOVE about music. They are original, cultural, musical, eclectic, stylistic, fun, electronic, instrumental, progressive, dance, experimental and of course we must not forget the irresistible spanish punk thing they have got going on.

Alt-j ∆

In our new shaped world where voice has been replaced with bass, step, dub and much more, it is comforting to know that there is still that unique voice that touches you with his/hers chords. ∆ (pronounced Alt-j) is a english indie rock quartet formed in 2007. The group forms of Gwil Sainsbury (guitarist/bassist), Joe Newman (vocals/guitar),Gun Unger- Hamilton (keyboards) and Thom Green (drums). The quartet has the most unique style, voice, beats i have heard in a very long time. I don’t even think there is an equal to Joe Newman’s  distinct voice. They are like the serene sea-side holiday you need when you need to get away from the busy city life you live in.

PrettyLights

Last summer, as we were road trippin, we were listening to Pretty Lights.
Finally Moving came on and Pete (Peter Di Stefano of Porno For Pyros) said it sounded like Jimi Hendrix. He grabbed his guitar and started strumming All Along The Watch Tower as it played..

“No reason to get excited,”
The thief, he kindly spoke
“There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke…”

We struggled with the Etta James sample…. To be honest, it’s played out, over-used and we spent months over-thinking it. We worried the over-use of it would take away from the beauty of two legendary musicians singing to each other from the grave. As we stood on the stage at Wakarusa last summer watching Pretty Lights with our team and friends.. Derek played Finally Moving. Watching the crowd singing “sometimes I get a good feeling” together in the beautiful Ozark mountains we knew we had to leave it in. Enjoy!

David Keller

Not much is know about German Dj/Producer David Keller, and he certainly knows how to protect his privacy. He has been in the game for a while know, and has caught our attention with most of his sounds. He definitely has a unique style which makes you spot him immediately.

Einmusik

Einmusik is the solo project of Hamburg, Germany based producer and songwriter Samuel Kindermann. Samuel’s sounds suck you into their dreamy atmosphere: he aptly manages to keep you fascinated at all times; striking every beat at the right moment, and amusing your fantasies with a genial harmony of ambient sounds, alluring melodies, and unique choice of instruments that step in when you least expect.

Daft Punk vs Fake Punk

In the last couple of days the music world joggled with the news of Daft Punk coming back to life. It all started when the French duo posted a new picture and shared their new site on their Facebook page. A couple of hours later the site crashed because of the enormous traffic to the site. Its normal knowing that half the world has been waiting for a new album since their last which was in 2005 (Not counting their soundtrack album for Tron). Then came the rumors about a new track that was leaked from their coming album this year. Wrong! The leaked track actually belonged to an italian duo who called themselves Art-Institute. It is correct to say that they have in fact nearly mastered the Daft Punk beats. However, Daft Punk has uploaded an audio from the commercial clip of their upcoming album with Columbia Records.

Shook

We have featured Shook here on PHS before, but not all our posts had written content back then; we were never really able to praise his style of music. For us, Shook is one of the few people that gives us the confidence to say “Fuck yes! He just released a new tune, I bet its awesome!” The unique funky, feel-good, oldies vibe is dominant in all his tracks, but this is not a bad thing, that funk is just what we love to hear. He recently posted his new remix of  “Been There Before” by Ghost Beach – definitely improved the original.
